Fire up your Metabolism for your Best Body Ever!
November 20 2016
We have all heard that eating multiple small meals and/or multiple snacks every day will increase our metabolism and help us lose or maintain a lean body mass.
A higher metabolism helps you burn fat throughout the day. Eating more frequent, smaller meals or snacks is widely favored by health professionals.
Studies have shown that people who eat multiple meals + snacks throughout the day during have a lower risk of obesity and are thinner as a whole. They also will prevent many of the signs of fatigue and irritability which will occur when a body believes it is being starved.
Those who eat multiple meals and small snacks will most likely take in fewer calories in total throughout the day than those who skip meals or eat less often, as they do not have the hunger pangs which occur when we get hungry. Eating or having a healthy snack every few hours, helps us to feel satiated and less likely to over eat (later).
When someone restricts their calories too much, their normal metabolism decreases to conserve energy. This is a type of "starvation mode," and is one of the hard-wired truths of human genetics. When calories are restricted for a prolonged period of time, the body will begin to burn muscle for energy, instead of fat. The person initially might feel as though they are losing weight properly, but soon their metabolism will significantly decrease, making it very hard to lose weight as time goes on.
Severely restrict calories causes a feeling of lethargy, weakness and spur difficulty concentrating,as all parts of the body (including the brain) will slow down to conserve calories. This is why you may feel fatigued, irritable and weak after several hours without eating
